Why I Don't Wash Comforters in My Home Washer
A comforter looks easy to wash, but I do not recommend putting it in a small home washer.
A comforter is big and heavy. When it gets wet, it gets even heavier. In a home machine, it can bunch up into one tight ball. That means the soap and water cannot move through it very well.
When that happens, the comforter may not get truly clean. Some spots can stay dirty. Some spots can stay soapy. It can also take a very long time to dry.
A wet comforter can be hard on your washer too. It can shake the machine, make a loud noise, and put extra wear on the parts. If you have a washer with a middle agitator, that can be rough on big bedding too.
Another problem is smell. If a comforter stays damp for too long, it can start to smell musty. That is no fun, and it can lead to mildew.
I like to keep things simple. If a comforter is too big for the washer, it is better to use a large front-load machine or let us handle it for you.
At WSHFLD, we can pick it up, wash it, dry it, fold it, and bring it back. That saves you time and helps keep your comforter in better shape.
